Sixx Kids and a Kitchen - dwell.com, 1/30/2008

Cortney and Robert Novogratz are the husband-and-wife team behind SIXX Design, a company named for their six children. Together, the two buy old buildings in downtown New York and turn them into modern homes.

This week, the couple invited us over to take a look at their kitchen—a bright, welcoming space that reflects the Novogratz’s playful mix of high and low: a Cappellini table topped with a found plastic vase; artwork by Ann Carrington and Graham Gilmore, mingling with their children’s paper maché creations. And then there’s that unexpected element: a working garage door that opens onto a garden.

The range in décor is characteristic of the Novogratzes’ as parents: “My wife’s philosophy is you can keep your shoes on or take them off —just don’t forget them when you leave,” said Robert. “You can’t be uptight with six kids.”
